Inspection of high-risk buildings results in 8 prosecutions. Fire Department: Fire hazards have significantly improved.
The Fire Services Department conducted re-inspections over the past two days of eight high-risk buildings, deploying 80 fire personnel. It found 29 fire-hazard and illegal items, which involved 8 prosecutions relating to cases such as blocked escape routes and smoke-control doors being wedged open. The Department also issued 13 “Notices to Remove Fire Hazards.”
The Department said that during the period, it found that some buildings had damaged smoke-control doors and fire-fighting installations or equipment, which were also obstructed. It will issue “Notices to Remove Fire Hazards” to the relevant responsible persons, and will continue to take follow-up actions.
The re-inspection results showed that the number of fire-hazard matters in certain buildings had clearly decreased, proving that through proactive patrols and resolute enforcement by the Fire Services Department, residents’ fire-prevention awareness has been enhanced. In addition, with cooperation from property management companies, fire-hazard incidents can be effectively reduced.
The Department emphasized that it will continue to review inspection results and, by making good use of big data to deepen risk monitoring and follow-up mechanisms, it is committed to raising the overall level of fire safety in buildings across Hong Kong, strengthening residents’ overall fire-prevention awareness, and making Hong Kong a safer and more livable city.
