Zelensky, Kallas Seek to Release USD105B in Credit Ukraine
(MENAFN) Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Kaja Kallas in Kyiv on Tuesday to explore ways to release €90 billion ($105 billion) in credit for Ukraine.
As stated by reports, Zelenskyy emphasized that these funds serve as a financial guarantee not only for Ukraine’s security but also for the stability of Europe. The credit has been blocked since January 27 by Hungary, following Ukraine’s suspension of energy deliveries through the Druzhba pipeline to both Hungary and Slovakia.
The discussions also focused on tightening sanctions against Russia, particularly the expedited adoption of the EU’s 20th sanctions package. Zelenskyy stressed that all efforts should be made to unblock this package, especially given recent partial relaxations on Russian oil sanctions.
According to reports, the two leaders also addressed advancing Ukraine’s integration with Europe and the need to open negotiation clusters to facilitate further alignment with EU standards.
During the meeting, Zelenskyy awarded Kallas the Order of Princess Olha, First Class, which recognizes women for “personal merits in state, production, scientific, educational, cultural, charitable and other spheres of social activity, and for the upbringing of children in families.” Kallas expressed gratitude for the honor and reaffirmed her commitment to support Ukraine.
“I am honored to receive the Order of Princess Olha,” she wrote on the US social media platform X. “Ukraine has been on my mind every day since Russia started its war of aggression.”
Speaking at a press briefing during an informal meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs in Kyiv, Kallas confirmed that the EU is providing additional financial assistance to Ukraine.
