You know, I recently realized that there’s way more interesting stuff in movies about cryptocurrency than just watching candles on a chart. I started digging, and here’s what I found — a whole collection of films that are really worth watching.
It all started back in 2014-2016, when the first documentaries about Bitcoin appeared. Like Banking on Bitcoin and The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin — they tell the story of how it all began, with interviews from the first enthusiasts. Honestly, if you want to understand where it all comes from, that’s a good starting point.
But if you want a crypto movie with action and intrigue, Silk Road (2021) is just like a movie. A crime thriller about Ross Ulbricht and his даркнет marketplace. It’s not about Bitcoin as a technology, but as a real tool used in underground operations. Tense, honestly.
There’s also Bitconned (2024) — a documentary about the Centra Tech scam. Three guys scammed millions from investors by pretending to be crypto geniuses. A story about greed and deception that shows not everything in crypto is as shiny as it seems.
For those who want something lighter, there’s Dope (2015) — a comedy-drama about teenagers where Bitcoin is part of the plot. Not directly about cryptocurrency, but the vibe is cool.
There are also a few documentaries about blockchain in general — Trust Machine (2018) explains the technology more broadly than just money. And Bitcoin: The End of Money as We Know It (2015) — about how crypto can change the financial system.
There’s also a crypto thriller, Crypto (2019), about money laundering and corruption, but honestly, the ratings aren’t great.
Even in the series The Good Wife, there was an episode about Bitcoin — Bitcoin for Dummies. An attorney deals with the legal aspects of digital assets. Funny how crypto movies sometimes pop up in the most unexpected places.
Overall, if you’re tired of charts and news, you should watch any of these movies. Each shows crypto from different angles — from technology to crime. Which one to watch depends on your mood.
