(MENAFN) Several strong explosions were reported early Wednesday across different parts of Iran’s capital as military strikes involving the United States and Israel continued, according to reports.

As stated by reports, blasts were heard in northeastern, western, and central districts of Tehran, with smoke rising into the sky and visible from various parts of the city. Around the same time, similar explosion sounds were reported in the nearby city of Karaj, located west of the capital.

There were no immediate details regarding casualties or the scale of the destruction.

According to reports, US and Israeli forces have been conducting ongoing airstrikes on Iran since late February, with Iranian authorities saying the attacks have resulted in more than 1,340 deaths. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile operations targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf nations hosting American military bases.

Official figures indicate that at least 13 US service members have been killed since the start of the conflict. The situation has also led to rising global energy prices and caused disruptions in maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil transit route responsible for about 20% of the world’s daily supply.
