This year, multiple regions in the mainland have introduced spring vacation policies for primary and secondary schools. Combined with the 5-day long holiday in the Hong Kong and Macao areas, the Qingming holiday period is expected to see a peak in cross-border travel. The National Immigration Administration predicts that the number of people entering and leaving the country at ports nationwide will exceed 2.3 million passenger trips per day during the holiday period, up 11.1% year over year.

The authorities expect that passenger flows through land ports adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao will rise noticeably, with Hong Kong-, Macao-, and Taiwan residents returning home to pay respects to ancestors and those coming for inbound tourism expected to increase significantly, along with overseas Chinese expatriates. Among them, the daily average number of people entering and leaving at Shenzhen Luohu, Futian, Shenzhen Bay, the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong High-Speed Railway West Kowloon Station, and the Liantang port are expected to reach 250,000, 230,000, 190,000, 120,000, and 110,000 passenger trips, respectively. At Zhuhai Gongbei, the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge, the Qingmao port, and the Hengqin port, the daily average number of people entering and leaving is expected to reach 375,000, 152,000, 113,000, and 113,000 passenger trips, respectively.
