As the United States and Iran signal a willingness to de-escalate, the Wall Street Journal, citing a report by a UAE official, says the UAE is preparing to help the United States and other allies reopen the Strait of Hormuz by force.

The official said the UAE has lobbied the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution authorizing this action. UAE diplomats have urged the United States, Europe, and major military powers in Asia to form an alliance to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by force.

The official also said the UAE is actively assessing how it can play a military role in ensuring the security of the strait, including helping clear mines and providing other support services.

Earlier, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the United Nations had previously adopted a resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on its cities, as well as a resolution by the International Maritime Organization condemning the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that the international community has reached broad consensus that navigation freedom through the Strait of Hormuz must be upheld.
