Qatar proposes to mediate the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan
As tensions escalate between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Qatar has proposed mediating the conflict to help ease relations between the two sides. Reports say that Qatar officials have contacted representatives of the Afghanistan government and indicated their willingness to work toward easing bilateral frictions. At present, it is unclear whether Afghanistan has responded to the mediation proposal. On the same day, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal said he spoke by phone with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Darnton, exchanging views on developments in the region and ways to ease tensions. Iran’s Foreign Minister Al Araghchi called on the two countries to properly manage and resolve their differences through dialogue within the framework of good-neighborly relations, and said that Iran is ready to provide all necessary assistance to promote dialogue between the two countries and foster mutual understanding and cooperation.
