SYDNEY–Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will deliver an address to the nation at 0800 GMT on the evolving fuel crisis and the country’s response to the war in the Middle East.

The address comes amid a surge in fuel prices that has stoked fears of higher inflation and interest rates, even as economic growth stalls.

Some economists expect the economy to contract in the second quarter as fuel scarcity brings production in some industries to a halt.

Albanese’s address follows similar national broadcasts by former Prime Ministers during the Covid-19 pandemic and the global financial crisis.
