BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua) — On March 31, the reporter learned from the China Light Industry Federation that from January to February 2026, the added value of above-scale light industry in China increased by 7% year on year, and achieved business revenue of 3.6 trillion yuan, up 6.8%.
Among them, the added value of some light industry sectors grew relatively quickly. The added value growth rates for plastic furniture and battery manufacturing both exceeded 20%. The plastics products industry saw added value grow by 9.1%, and the household appliance manufacturing industry saw added value grow by 5.6%. The processing of agricultural and sideline products saw added value grow by 6.1%, food manufacturing saw added value grow by 10.6%, and the manufacturing of alcoholic beverages, beverages, and refined tea saw added value grow by 4.3%.
In addition, the market size remained stable with an upward trend. From January to February 2026, retail sales of light-industry 11-category commodities totaled 15,306 billion yuan, up 9.3%. The share of retail sales of light-industry commodities in total retail sales of consumer goods was 17.8%, up 0.7 percentage points from the same period last year.
