On March 25, with the final caisson placed with precision, the caisson installation work for Phase 1 of the river-sea intermodal terminal in the Fangchenggang Port area of the Yizhuan Port Zone’s Fourth Work Area—berths 1 and 2—was completed in full. This marks a major breakthrough at a key milestone in the project construction, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent superstructure construction and for the terminal’s overall completion and commissioning on schedule.

Phase 1 of the river-sea intermodal terminal is an important initiative for implementing the “Overall Plan for the New Western Land-Sea Corridor” and the construction of the river-sea intermodal transport system of the Pinglu Canal. The project will newly build six 100,000-ton-grade bulk cargo berths, with a designed annual throughput capacity of 19.2 million tons. It will use non-deep-water shoreline of more than 1,010 meters, with a total investment estimate of over 1.89 billion yuan. After completion, the project will efficiently connect with the Pinglu Canal, strongly ensure the raw material loading and shipping needs of port-adjacent enterprises, further enhance the service level of the Beibu Gulf International Gateway Port, and support the construction of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor.

The caissons installed this time are an important component of the wharf-type caisson structure for berths 1 and 2. As of now, the project has completed the prefabrication of 44 caissons, shipped out 38, and installed 25. The successful wrap-up of the caissons for berths 1 and 2 lays a good foundation for the overall advancement of the project. Currently, all earthwork backfilling in the project’s rear land area has been completed, the heavy compaction work is basically finished, and various processes such as the windbreak net, the foundation for the bucket-wheel reclaimer, and the yard pavement are being advanced in parallel.

Next, Beibu Gulf Port will continue to focus on the “Four First-Class” goals, accelerate the installation of caissons for the shoreline protection works and berths 7 to 10, and ensure that road yard and wharf civil works main construction are completed by the end of 2026. It will spare no effort to ensure the project is completed and commissioned on schedule. To ensure efficient and high-level operation of navigation through the Pinglu Canal, support high-quality co-building of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, and inject strong momentum into the building of a modern Beibu Gulf International Gateway Port.
