I just started thinking about a number — Tokyo's population simply blows my mind. When we talk about the metropolitan area, we're looking at roughly 38 million people in one city. To compare, that's almost half of all France living within a single megacity.

This gives us an understanding of why Japan's overall population exceeds 120 million. When you see how many people are concentrated specifically in Tokyo, it becomes clear that this isn't just a big city — it's an entire country within a country. Tokyo's population is so large that it ranks as the most populous megacity on the planet.

What's interesting is that this isn't a future reality; it's happening right now. Tokyo's population continues to grow, and the city remains a magnet for millions of people. Such population concentration in one place is a unique phenomenon in world history. It's hard to grasp the scale until you realize that Tokyo's population is larger than that of entire countries.
