U.S. President Donald Trump: U.S. Defense Secretary Hegseth and others are “disappointed” by signs that the situation with Iran is stabilizing, implying their stance is to maintain an external conflict.

According to a report by the U.S. newspaper The Hill, on March 24, U.S. President Trump stated that U.S. Defense Secretary Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley were “disappointed” with their views on the U.S.-Iran ceasefire negotiations.

Trump said the U.S.-Iran conflict could end very soon, and that Hegseth and Milley are “the only two who feel this deeply disappointed.”

Trump said, “I think this will be resolved very quickly, and they say, ‘Oh, too bad.’ Hegseth doesn’t want the war to end.”

“They’re not interested in reaching a settlement; they just want to win this war,” he added.

The U.S.-Iran conflict has now entered its fourth week, during which Trump has issued conflicting signals multiple times about how long the war might last and its scale. At one point, he implied that ongoing negotiations could lead to a quick end to the conflict, while also stating that if negotiations break down, new attacks could be launched against Iran’s energy infrastructure.

According to Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for U.S. Central Command, as of the 24th, 13 U.S. service members had died, and another 290 were injured. Of those injured, 35 have not yet returned to duty.
