(MENAFN) One person was killed and eight others wounded after Ukraine unleashed what regional authorities called its most powerful drone assault yet on the Russian city of Taganrog in the Rostov region, Governor Yury Slyusar announced Monday.

In a statement posted to Telegram, Slyusar described the overnight barrage as “the most powerful” since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “More than 60 drones were destroyed during a massive attack in Taganrog and six districts of the Rostov region,” he said, disclosing that the assault damaged 12 apartment buildings, 27 private homes, 10 vehicles, and three commercial establishments.

In a separate announcement, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that 102 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted and shot down overnight across multiple Russian regions — underscoring the sweeping scale of the aerial campaign.

Hundreds of kilometers to the north, the industrial city of Tolyatti in the Samara region also came under attack. Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed the strike in his own Telegram post, stating: “Early this morning, enemy unmanned aerial vehicles attacked an industrial facility in Tolyatti. There are no casualties. Residential and social facilities were not damaged. Emergency services are conducting operations.”

Ukrainian media outlets, citing undisclosed sources, corroborated the Tolyatti strike and identified the target as the KuibyshevAzot chemical plant — a facility that produces compounds used, among other applications, in the manufacture of explosives — a detail that points to a deliberate strike on Russia’s defense-linked industrial base.

Kyiv has yet to issue any official statement regarding the attack on Taganrog.
