According to a concentrated survey by Zhuochuang Information in mid-to-early March, cotton planting intentions for 2026 have declined. The main reason is that Xinjiang, the cotton-producing main region, has already set out a policy plan to reduce the allocated amount. For non-cotton-suitable areas, regions with severe over-extraction of groundwater, and newly added cotton areas on reclaimed wasteland and low-yield, low-efficiency cotton areas, the plan is to reduce planting, thereby promoting a transition of land resources toward high-efficiency and sustainable use, and achieving coordinated development of food security, ecological protection, and the cotton industry. Based on Zhuochuang Information’s preliminary survey results regarding individual growers, agricultural cooperatives, planting enterprises, and other participating entities, the year-over-year decline in Xinjiang’s cotton planting area in 2026 may be around 3%-5%.
