Do you remember this legend? Laszlo Hanyecz, an ordinary programmer, exchanged 10,000 bitcoins for two pizzas. That was in May 2010, when Bitcoin was still a child. Something absolutely crazy from today’s perspective.

The story started quite innocently. Laszlo simply wanted a pizza and thought—why not try paying for it with bitcoins? He posted on the Bitcoin forum with a specific order: two pizzas with sausage, onions, and green peppers. No pineapple, that was a condition. No one took it seriously. Bitcoin was new, strange, worthless. But one person stepped up.

Jeremy Sturdivant, a teenager from the USA, came up with an idea. He used his credit card, ordered the pizzas for Laszlo, and received 10,000 bitcoins. At that time, it was worth just $30. It seemed like a fair deal for both sides.

And then the drama begins. Those bitcoins that Laszlo spent on pizza would be worth about $667 million today at the current rate of $66,740 per bitcoin. An incredible number. But you know what? Laszlo never regretted it. He even said on CBS's '60 Minutes'—for him, Bitcoin was just an interesting currency, something from video games. Buying something with it was exciting.

Laszlo didn’t become rich; he remained a modest programmer. He mined those bitcoins himself, so they were practically free for him. Jeremy also doesn’t regret it—right after the transaction, he exchanged his bitcoins for $400 and spent it on travel. Now he has only $119 worth of BTC, but he values his role in this story.

Interestingly, this moment has become legendary. Every year on May 22, the cryptocurrency world celebrates Bitcoin Pizza Day. Laszlo Hanyecz’s transaction is a reminder that Bitcoin was once just an experiment, something for fun. Now? It’s a story that shows how much the world has changed. A pizza worth nearly $700 million—probably the most famous purchase in cryptocurrency history.
