On March 31, Cointelegraph reported that the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) has launched a new regulatory framework for trading derivatives on cryptocurrency trading platforms (ETD), clarifying how licensed crypto companies can offer such products in Dubai. This framework is outlined in VARA’s ‘Trading Platform Service Rules Handbook’ Version 2.1 and covers requirements such as customer suitability, leverage and margin controls, asset segregation, disclosure standards, and regulatory intervention powers. VARA stated that this framework applies to licensed Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASP) offering trading platform services in Dubai. This update establishes more formal regulatory safeguards in the high-risk areas of Dubai’s crypto market, while also extending trading rules beyond the scope of spot trading in the emirate.
