On March 29 local time, a reporter from the state broadcaster learned that U.S. President Trump said he does not oppose other countries supplying oil to Cuba. Trump said that if any country wanted to ship oil to Cuba now, “the United States has no objections, whether that is Russia or not.” Previously, a U.S. official revealed that the U.S. Coast Guard allowed a Russian oil tanker loaded with crude oil to sail to Cuba. Due to U.S. sanctions, Cuba has long struggled to import fuel and the equipment needed to repair severely aging power plants, leaving the country with tight electricity supplies. Since October 2024, Cuba has repeatedly experienced nationwide blackouts for reasons including failures of power facilities and hurricanes. (CCTV News)
