Recently, when testing a project, I finally started using virtual phone number verification platforms. I’ve encountered many pitfalls before—sometimes the verification code wouldn’t arrive, or it would be delayed by half a day. After some trial and error, I summarized a few reliable platforms and want to share them.

Honestly, virtual phone numbers are really convenient, especially when registering for overseas websites or conducting account verification experiments. The principle is simple: use the virtual number provided by the platform to receive SMS verification codes, so you don’t need to buy new SIM cards and your privacy is protected. Among the ones I’ve used, SMS-Activate and 5SIM are the most stable overall. Verification codes usually arrive within 10 seconds, they cover many countries, and are suitable for cross-border application testing. Super Cloud SMS’s US number ranges are also decent, with codes arriving in about 10-30 seconds. Chinese number ranges are even faster, with responses within 5-20 seconds.

For domestic applications, Xiaoniao Verification and Getsmscode work well. Xiaoniao Verification can receive codes in 5-15 seconds, and offers good value. My experience is to prepare 2-3 backup numbers at once so that if there’s risk control or invalidation, you can switch immediately. Getsmscode is inexpensive and suitable for light usage, but some less popular platforms might experience delays.

When using virtual phone numbers for verification, there are a few pitfalls to watch out for: shared numbers are often previously registered, and verification codes may be delayed—especially for obscure countries or apps. It’s best to choose reputable platforms rather than just chasing low prices. Also, don’t rely on them as long-term primary numbers; privacy and security can’t really be guaranteed. Some platforms support one-click number switching, which is super practical and can prevent waste.

If it’s just for API testing, any platform supporting API access is enough. But if you need stable registration for overseas websites, I recommend loading multiple numbers and refreshing or switching country codes if verification codes aren’t received—this usually solves the problem. Overall, virtual phone number verification platforms can save a lot of trouble if used properly, but you need to find the right platform.
