just spent like an hour scrolling through nft sales history and honestly the numbers are wild. like, Pak's Merge sold for $91.8 million back in 2021? that's insane. and it wasn't even one person buying it—28,893 collectors pooled together. that's a whole different level of most expensive nft energy.

Beeple's Everydays started at $100 and went to $69 million at Christie's. started at ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS. the guy literally drew one piece every day for 5000 days and it became the second most expensive nft ever. there's also his Human One sculpture that's constantly updating—like it's a living artwork. kind of mind-bending.

but what really got me is the CryptoPunks situation. these things were literally free when they dropped in 2017, and now individual punks are selling for tens of millions. CryptoPunk #5822 went for $23 million. an alien-themed pixel avatar. the most expensive nft in that series keeps breaking records. even the cheaper ones are going for millions now.

there's also this Clock NFT that Pak made with Julian Assange—it literally counts the days he was imprisoned. sold for $52.7 million to fund his legal defense. that's actually wild because it's not just art, it's activism.

and don't even get me started on how many of these most expensive nft records are held by CryptoPunks and Beeple. feels like they're just dominating the entire space. makes you wonder if we'll ever see anything break these prices again or if this was peak nft hype.
