The World Data Organization was officially established in Beijing, with over 200 member organizations already affiliated.

This afternoon, the World Data Organization was officially established in Beijing, marking the world’s first professional international organization dedicated to promoting data development and governance practices. The head of the World Data Organization was interviewed by a CCTV reporter.

Why was this international organization established at this particular time?

Tant Tieniu, Chairman of the World Data Organization, stated that currently, the global economic recovery remains sluggish overall, with insufficient growth momentum. Relying on traditional trade and investment to stimulate economic growth, the marginal effects are said to be diminishing. Meanwhile, the digital economy is rising rapidly and can be described as booming. The AI wave is very hot, and the most important feature of this wave is that it is data-driven. How to fully unleash the potential of data and accelerate the development of the digital economy is a common challenge faced by all humanity, and it requires a globally recognized international platform to help solve these issues.

What exactly will the World Data Organization do?

One key function of the World Data Organization is “breaking down barriers”: addressing the difficulties caused by differing data policies among countries, promoting industry consensus, standard recommendations, and best practices, providing references for governments and research institutions worldwide, and helping multinational companies reduce data compliance costs.

Additionally, the World Data Organization emphasizes “building an ecosystem”: applying data to practical scenarios such as healthcare, education, and energy, promoting project implementation and industrial innovation; strengthening talent development—especially assisting countries in the Global South and developing nations to enhance their data capabilities and narrow the data gap.

The World Data Organization has already gathered over 200 members

Currently, the World Data Organization has over 200 members, covering more than 40 countries worldwide.

Its members include enterprises, universities, think tanks, international organizations, financial institutions, and other diverse entities, spanning 14 industries such as industry, finance, healthcare, public services, e-commerce retail, transportation and logistics, energy, construction, internet, agriculture, education, media, automobiles, and law. It has initially formed a global layout with a diversified, collaborative member ecosystem.

Jack Perry, chairman of the 48-member group in the UK, said: “Data has no borders. They flow in the cloud, but at the same time, they can also become a barrier. That’s why we must work together. I see China is directly addressing these issues and seeking solutions to make the benefits of digital economic development more inclusive and equitable for all.”
