You know Elon Musk, of course. But his brother Kimbal? He's a very fascinating character, even if he's less in the spotlight. Recently, Kimbal posted a sharp critique of Trump on X regarding tariffs, which surprised quite a few people given the family’s connections to the former president. The interesting thing is that Kimbal Musk has an estimated fortune of $700 million, mainly made up of his stake in Tesla (0.04% of the capital). Not bad for a guy who’s always wearing a cowboy hat, right?

What’s strange is that despite their sometimes divergent positions, the Musks really love each other. Kimbal and Elon share a striking resemblance: both born in Pretoria, square jaw, straight nose, green eyes, and holding South African, Canadian, and American nationalities. The only visible difference? The cowboy hat that Kimbal never takes off.

Their family history has been marked by hardships. Kimbal, his sister Tosca, and Elon all experienced parental violence in their childhood, which led their mother Maya to divorce in 1979. The family then emigrated to Canada and later to the United States. It was there that Kimbal and Elon co-founded Zip2, an enterprise software startup for the Internet, which they sold in 1999 to Compaq for $307 million. A promising start that laid the foundation for their respective fortunes. Today, Kimbal remains an interesting figure in the Musk clan, less known to the general public but equally involved in impactful projects.
