You're wrong. When no one is bullish, the market maker only needs to use their left hand to press and their right hand to raise the spot price, creating a high-fee negative state. Then they consolidate sideways, waiting for high leverage short-sellers to get liquidated. One liquidation is enough to sell off and trigger another. Just now, the market maker quickly rebounded after pulling a big long position on the chain to the stop-loss level, indicating they have no intention of falling. They simply don't want to lift these long positions, so they consolidate sideways to shake out weak hands. Once the long positions decrease, they will immediately break today's new high to trigger a short squeeze.
