Abstract generation in progress

South Carolina regulators have unanimously approved Duke Energy’s plan to build a 1,400-megawatt natural gas plant in Starr, despite opposition from some residents and environmental groups concerned about health and environmental impacts. Duke Energy claims the plant is crucial for meeting growing energy demands, will use modern technology to control emissions, and is projected to generate significant tax revenue for local school districts. The company will now seek tax incentives from the Anderson County Council.
