Beijing, March 18 (Xinhua) – Jin Wei, Deputy Mayor of Beijing, stated at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on the 18th that international science and technology organizations are gathering and developing in Beijing. Last year, four new international science and technology organizations were established, bringing the total number to 53, with Chaoyang District becoming the first national headquarters cluster for international science and technology organizations.

Jin Wei emphasized that strengthening international scientific and technological exchange and cooperation, and gathering global innovation resources, are essential for building Beijing (Jingjinji) as an international science and technology innovation center.

Beijing is creating a more globally competitive open innovation ecosystem and continuously deepening international exchange and cooperation. Jin Wei mentioned that the international conference on basic sciences held annually in Beijing is gradually becoming a grand event for top global scholars to discuss the future of science. The International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) World Conference 2025, to be held in Beijing, will attract representatives from 97 countries and regions, with the “Zhongguancun Initiative” reflecting the wisdom and consensus of global science parks.

Beijing is actively promoting global industrial collaboration. Jin Wei stated that in 2025, the number of newly established foreign-funded enterprises in Beijing is expected to grow by nearly 20% year-on-year, with the total number of foreign research and development centers reaching 332. The University of Cambridge is engaging in innovative cooperation with the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, while the German Steinbeis Technology Transfer Center and the UK P4 Precision Medicine Accelerator are also developing in Beijing. AstraZeneca has established its sixth global strategic research and development center in Beijing. Multinational pharmaceutical companies such as Eli Lilly, Sanofi, and Johnson & Johnson have all set up operations in the city.

Beijing is actively participating in global innovation governance and continuously accelerating the construction of world-class scientific journals. Jin Wei noted that over the past three years, Beijing has added more than 60 English scientific journals, with ten journals, including “Computational Visual Media,” ranked first in the world for their influence in their respective fields.

“Beijing is a fertile ground for technological innovation,” Jin Wei stated, adding that Beijing will promote reform through openness and foster development through reform, achieving broader, wider, and deeper international exchange and cooperation. (End)
