February 2026: Consumer Price Index (CPI) up 1.3% year over year

In February 2026, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for residents increased 1.3% year over year across the country. Of this, urban areas rose 1.4% and rural areas rose 0.9%; food prices rose 1.7% and non-food prices rose 1.3%; prices of consumer goods rose 1.1% and service prices rose 1.6%. On average for January–February, the CPI for residents increased 0.8% compared with the same period last year.

In February, the CPI for residents rose 1.0% month over month. Of this, urban areas rose 1.0% and rural areas rose 0.7%; food prices rose 1.9% and non-food prices rose 0.8%; prices of consumer goods rose 0.8% and service prices rose 1.1%.

I. Year-over-year changes in prices of various goods and services

In February, prices in the food, tobacco and alcohol, and meals out category rose 1.4% year over year, contributing to an increase in the CPI (Consumer Price Index) of about 0.41 percentage points. Within food, fresh vegetable prices rose 10.9%, contributing to an increase in the CPI of about 0.19 percentage points; aquatic products rose 6.1%, contributing about 0.11 percentage points; fresh fruit rose 5.9%, contributing about 0.12 percentage points; egg prices fell 2.9%, contributing about a 0.02 percentage-point decrease; and pork and livestock meat prices fell 2.7%, contributing about a 0.11 percentage-point decrease. Of this, pork prices fell 8.6%, contributing about a 0.17 percentage-point decrease.

The other seven major categories saw five increases and two decreases year over year. Among them, other goods and services, daily necessities and services, and education, culture and entertainment prices rose 15.4%, 2.8%, and 2.0%, respectively; apparel and medical care and health prices both rose 1.9%; transportation and communications, and housing prices fell 0.7% and 0.2%, respectively.

II. Month-over-month changes in prices of various goods and services

In February, prices in the food, tobacco and alcohol, and meals out category rose 1.4% month over month, contributing to an increase in the CPI of about 0.40 percentage points. Within food, aquatic products rose 6.9%, contributing about 0.13 percentage points to the CPI; fresh fruit rose 4.0%, contributing about 0.08 percentage points; pork and livestock meat rose 2.6%, contributing about 0.11 percentage points, of which pork prices rose 4.0%, contributing about 0.07 percentage points; and egg prices rose 1.3%, contributing about 0.01 percentage points.

The other seven major categories saw five increases, one flat, and one decrease month over month. Among them, other goods and services, transportation and communications, and education, culture and entertainment prices rose 2.3%, 2.2%, and 1.6%, respectively; daily necessities and services, and medical care and health prices rose 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively. Housing prices were unchanged; apparel prices fell 0.1%.
