China accelerates brain-computer interface development, technology applications enter the "fast lane"

At the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum annual exhibition held in Beijing, many brain-computer interface products, including dedicated chips and rehabilitation assistive therapy systems, attracted numerous visitors. Among them, the independently developed “Beinao No. 1” and “Beinao No. 2” intelligent brain-computer systems received widespread attention. “Brain-computer interface technology is advancing rapidly, and its application fields are gradually expanding,” said Zhao Jizong, an expert in neurosurgery at Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. As the world’s first high-throughput, wireless semi-invasive brain-computer product with over a hundred channels, “Beinao No. 1” has completed seven human implant procedures, with patients recovering well and achieving restoration of motor and speech functions; “Beinao No. 2” is also set to enter the clinical validation stage this year.
