The FCC has unanimously adopted an order supported by Verizon and the New Jersey Utilities Association to simplify the process of decommissioning copper networks. This move aims to accelerate the transition to modern fiber-optic and wireless networks, citing significant cost savings, energy efficiency, and improved reliability. The new order will eliminate some filing requirements and grant blanket authority to grandfather legacy copper services, allowing providers to focus on upgrading to more efficient technologies.
