【Caixin】 Over the past 40 years, men’s football is one of the few areas in China that has not made progress. Professional sports is the industry with the highest degree of globalization, and China and Europe should strengthen cooperation in the field of football. On March 24, Jiang Xiaojuan, director of the National Data Expert Advisory Committee, made this point during the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2026.

Before this, former Italian Deputy Minister of Economic Development Michele Geraci jokingly mentioned how China and Europe could strengthen cooperation, saying, “If you’re in semiconductors, come to China; if you’re in football, it’s better to stay in Europe.” This remark aims to remind foreign investment to understand China’s industrial policy direction.
