Chevron has agreed to pay a civil penalty of just over $1 million and retired credits worth about $3.6 million to settle violations of the Clean Air Act’s Renewable Fuel Standard program. The company invalidly generated over 2.2 million advanced biofuel production credits (RINs) from January to August 2022 on renewable diesel that had already been used for RIN generation and sold to third parties. Meanwhile, Chevron’s stock (CVX) has seen increased focus and a 25% jump in 2026 due to rising oil supply pressures related to the conflict in the Middle East.
