Her research and market analysis suggest that the commercial viability of quantum computing will likely arrive between the mid-2040s and the mid-2060s. What is interesting about Wood’s reflection is her self-criticism regarding previous predictions in her career. For years, she has noted that the commercialization of quantum computing has always seemed to be 20 years away, a typical characteristic of emerging technologies whose maturation is constantly underestimated.
