Abstract generation in progress

The Sha Ling Data Park held a groundbreaking ceremony today. The Secretary for Innovation and Technology and Industry, Sun Dong, responded to the media, stating that Hong Kong’s electricity utility system is mature and well-established. Electricity suppliers have sufficient generation capacity and grid flexibility to fully meet the needs of various users. The electricity demand for the Sha Ling project is a long-term stable and predictable rigid demand, with no sudden spikes in electricity usage; the relevant power supply systems will have mature solutions in place.

Sun Dong pointed out that before the project bidding, the government conducted thorough research on the feasibility of the engineering, concluding that there are no insurmountable technical barriers, including those related to electricity, water, sewage treatment, transportation, and various supporting facilities.

In his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, Sun Dong stated that the launch of the Sha Ling Data Park project is not only an important milestone in Hong Kong’s innovation and technology development but also a key step from blueprint to reality in the development of the Northern Metropolis. Runze Intelligent Computing Technology Group Co., Ltd. has cast a vote of confidence in this innovative technology land with “real money” and practical actions, becoming a leader in developing Hong Kong’s first high-end data park, which is significant.

He mentioned that the total floor area of the Sha Ling Data Park reaches 250,000 square meters, with nearly 90% allocated for high-end data centers. It is expected to be operational within 42 months, with an investment of 23.8 billion HKD in the first three years, potentially generating about 4.6 billion HKD in economic output and creating 180 technical positions. By 2032, the computing power scale could reach 180,000 PFLOPS (which is 180 trillion floating-point operations per second), equivalent to 36 times Hong Kong’s current computing power.

Sun Dong emphasized that today marks not only the launch of an infrastructure project but also an important initiative for Hong Kong to contribute to the country’s high-quality development and proactively integrate into the national “Artificial Intelligence +” initiative. After the Sha Ling Data Park becomes operational in 2029, it will undertake three important missions: First, to become a data hub connecting the mainland and the international community, providing secure, efficient, and reliable infrastructure for data circulation; second, to become the core engine driving the development of Hong Kong’s artificial intelligence industry, attracting outstanding enterprises and innovators from home and abroad to converge in Hong Kong, forming a globally competitive innovation hub; third, to align with the “14th Five-Year Plan,” becoming an important support for advancing the construction of a digital China, empowering various industries with strong computing power.
