On the morning of March 28, the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal experienced a peak in passenger traffic. The cruise ship “Spectrum of the Seas” and the visiting port cruise “Mein Schiff 6” arrived one after another. The total number of foreign passengers entering the country from both ships reached nearly 5,900, setting a new single-day record for foreign passenger arrivals at the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal since its opening. The next day, March 29, the Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal welcomed another busy moment. The “Mediterranean Belle” and “Aida·Magic City” cruise ships docked successively, achieving a simultaneous docking of three ships at the same port along with the earlier arriving “Mein Schiff 6,” marking the first “three ships together” docking at the Shanghai cruise port in 2026. According to statistics, from March 28 to 29, over 20,000 inbound and outbound passengers were inspected at the Shanghai cruise port, with foreign passengers accounting for more than half. Relying on convenient policies such as the 240-hour visa-free transit, visa-free entry for foreign tourist groups arriving by cruise, and unilateral visa exemptions, the proportion of foreign passengers enjoying visa-free entry was about 91%. Many foreign passengers on-site stated that the visa-free policy greatly simplified travel procedures, making their trip to China particularly smooth. From the overall situation in March, the number of cruise ships visiting the Shanghai cruise port increased by 66.7% year-on-year, and the number of inbound passengers traveling to China by visiting port cruises grew by 9.6% year-on-year. The significant increase in passenger traffic is attributed to the continuous expansion of China’s visa-free policies and the implementation of port facilitation measures. The series of inbound facilitation policies from the National Immigration Administration has been fully released, attracting more international cruises to choose Shanghai as a visiting port and promoting the continuous enhancement of Shanghai’s cruise hub capabilities.
