Suddenly, the pancake stall downstairs became popular, but the luxurious hotpot restaurant across the street isn't getting any customers at all?
Recently, I discovered a strange phenomenon. Last year, a new pancake stall opened downstairs, and it always seemed to have no business. The people living around here should mostly be locals, and I feel it might be a matter of taste differences. Many people might not be used to pancakes; I wasn’t either the first time I tried them long ago. However, looking at the pancakes, they actually seem quite appetizing.
I thought this pancake stall would not last long due to lack of business and would eventually close down. Surprisingly, the business of this pancake stall suddenly improved recently. Sometimes when I come back from work, I can see many people crowded in front of the stall, and it looks like business is doing quite well. Out of curiosity, I bought a portion yesterday, and I have to say, the taste of the pancake is quite good.
The key is that the price is indeed cheap, only 5 yuan for a large portion. If you want to add some meat, it only costs an extra 1 yuan. Since the pancakes are cut in half, I often see people buying one portion and sharing it between two people. I must say, the cost-performance ratio is very high, and the aroma of the pancakes is quite strong, attracting quite a few passersby.
Across from this pancake stall is a hot pot restaurant, a luxurious decorated hot pot restaurant, with a very large area. It should be a popular chain hot pot restaurant. Strangely enough, during meal times, there isn’t a single table occupied. Even though this is an urban village, the consumption power shouldn’t be that bad.
These two places form a stark contrast: a small stall with booming business and a long line, while a luxurious restaurant is struggling so badly. A few years ago, I don’t think anyone would have expected such a situation to arise. After all, people’s spending power was still decent back then; regardless of whether the food was good or not, as long as it was a trendy restaurant, it could still have good business.
It seems that after the Spring Festival, many people have already spent most of their money. After returning to normal work and life, they have to start being frugal again. From this comparison, it looks like physical stores will face more difficulties this year. If the restaurants remain expensive and the food isn’t good, even if the decor is nice and trendy, it will be hard to have good business. What do you think?
