On March 27, People’s Finance News reported that on March 26, during the 14th Ministerial Conference (MC14) of the World Trade Organization in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Valdis Dombrovskis. The two sides deeply exchanged views on issues such as WTO reform and China-Europe economic and trade relations. Chinese Ambassador to the WTO Li Yongqiang attended the meeting. Wang Wentao stated that China and Europe are important economic and trade partners to each other and should strengthen dialogue and communication. He hopes that the European side will view China’s development rationally and objectively, properly handle friction and differences, and jointly promote the healthy and positive development of bilateral economic and trade relations. China is willing to actively expand imports from Europe and hopes that the European side will relax export controls on high-tech products and not politicize or weaponize economic and trade issues. China is highly concerned about the series of economic and trade tools introduced by the European side in recent years, especially the Foreign Subsidies Regulation, the draft revision of the Cybersecurity Law, and the Industrial Accelerator Act, among others. These protectionist legislations will seriously affect normal economic and trade cooperation and supply chain stability between China and Europe. China hopes that the European side will pay close attention to China’s serious concerns and properly resolve them through dialogue and consultation.
