By 2025, Beijing's per capita regional GDP will reach 239,000 yuan.
On the 25th, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics and the National Bureau of Statistics Beijing Investigation Team released the “Statistical Bulletin on the National Economic and Social Development of Beijing in 2025” (hereinafter referred to as the “Bulletin”). The Bulletin shows that the city’s GDP exceeded 5 trillion yuan for the year, growing by 5.4% compared to the previous year. Based on the resident population, the per capita GDP reached 239,000 yuan, maintaining the highest level among provincial regions in the country. The total general public budget revenue for the year was 668.06 billion yuan, an increase of 4.8%; of which tax revenue accounted for 86.5%, and the quality of fiscal revenue remained the best in the country.
Beijing residents’ income continues to increase, with the per capita disposable income of residents approaching 90,000 yuan. Driven by policies promoting high-quality and fully adequate employment as well as continuous adjustments to various social security standards, the contributions from wage income and net transfer income are significant, contributing over 90% in total; rural residents’ income grew by 5.4%, outpacing urban residents by 1.3 percentage points, with the urban-rural income ratio narrowing for eight consecutive years.
The Bulletin shows that in 2025, the added value of the primary industry in Beijing was 10.92 billion yuan; the added value of the secondary industry was 718.74 billion yuan, growing by 3.5%; and the added value of the tertiary industry was 4,477.69 billion yuan, growing by 5.8%.
Beijing’s advantageous industries are undergoing quality upgrades, with significant contributions from new-generation information technology and intelligent manufacturing. The total added value of information transmission, software, and information technology services, finance, and industry accounted for 51.8% of the city’s GDP, contributing over 80% to economic growth.
The deep integration of technological and industrial innovation has maintained the intensity of research and experimental development (R&D) funding at around 6%, ranking among the top global innovative cities; the number of high-value invention patents per 10,000 people reached 180.7, an increase of 20.9 from the previous year.
The cultivation and expansion of new productive forces have been enhanced, with high-tech industries and strategic emerging industries (which overlap) achieving added values of 1,608.05 billion yuan and 1,332.34 billion yuan respectively, with their shares of GDP increasing by 0.9 and 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous year. Accelerating the construction of a global benchmark city for the digital economy, the added value of the digital economy surpassed 2.4 trillion yuan, accounting for 46.4% of the city’s GDP.
The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics stated that the capital’s functions have achieved new enhancements. Beijing has strengthened the construction of the “Four Centers,” successfully completing major service guarantee tasks for commemorative activities such as the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s Anti-Japanese War and the World Anti-Fascist War, ensuring a safer and better central government environment. It has strengthened the protection of historic cultural cities and reinforced the city’s characteristics of “Capital Style, Ancient Capital Charm, and Contemporary Appearance”; promoted the construction of “Capital of Performance Arts,” “City of Museums,” and “Bookish Beijing,” cumulatively recognizing over a hundred new performance spaces, with 249 registered museums, hosting more than 60,000 commercial performances and exceeding 5 billion yuan in box office revenue. High-level service support for important national events such as the Global Women’s Summit, constructing a flight network system that reaches all five continents, with the breadth of coverage ranking first in the country. The latest released “International Communication Center City Index 2025” shows that Beijing ranks sixth globally, maintaining its position as the top-ranked city in China for three consecutive years. Accelerating the construction of an international scientific and technological innovation center, strengthening original and leading technological breakthroughs, with 210 key core technologies achieving breakthroughs, maintaining the top position in the Natural Index - Research City global ranking for nine consecutive years; the number of international scientific organizations has increased to 52, successfully hosting over 50 major international scientific exchange activities, including the IASP World Conference and the International Basic Science Conference; the number of unicorn companies has ranked third among global cities for four consecutive years.
