According to reports, informed Defense Department officials have stated that the Pentagon is considering deploying up to 10,000 ground troops to the Middle East to provide President Trump with more military options, even as he is weighing peace negotiations with Tehran.

This contingent, which may include infantry and armored vehicles, would supplement the approximately 5,000 Marines and thousands of paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division already ordered to deploy to the region.

It is currently unclear where these troops will be specifically deployed in the Middle East, but they are likely to be positioned within striking distance of Iran and the key oil export hub Khurk Island along the Iranian coast.

Trump has repeatedly stated that he will open the Strait of Hormuz regardless of U.S. allies’ assistance.

“All statements regarding troop deployments will be issued by the Department of War. As we have said, President Trump always has all military options at his disposal,” said White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly. A spokesperson for U.S. Central Command, responsible for U.S. forces in the Middle East, declined to comment.
