Stock Markets Dip
(MENAFN) The New York Stock Exchange ended the session lower as lingering concerns over unrest in the Middle East continued to affect investor confidence.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 0.18%, or 84.41 points, settling at 46,124.06. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq composite dropped 0.84%, or 184.87 points, to close at 21,761.89, and the S&P 500 slid 0.37%, or 24.63 points, reaching 6,556.37.
The Volatility Index (VIX), commonly known as the market’s “fear index,” surged 3.06% to 26.95, reflecting heightened market uncertainty.
Investors’ risk tolerance was weighed down by the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, contributing to the downward movement across major stock indices.
On Monday, US President Donald Trump remarked that “productive” talks had taken place with Iran and that both nations aim to reach a deal, fueling optimism that regional tensions might subside.
However, Iranian authorities clarified that no direct discussions had occurred with the United States.
Trump reiterated on Tuesday that negotiations with Iran are underway, stating that Iran "gave us a present and the present arrived today. It was a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money.” He later elaborated that the gift involved commodities related to oil and natural gas.
