On the evening of March 26, Volkswagen and Xiaopeng Motors officially launched the pre-sale of their first jointly developed model — the Yizhong 08, with a pre-sale price ranging from 239,900 to 299,900 yuan. “The Yizhong 08 will be equipped with Xiaopeng Motors’ latest generation VLA (Visual Language Action Model) intelligent driving assistance system,” announced Liu Zhanshu, Chief Operating Officer of Volkswagen (Anhui) Digital Sales Service Co., Ltd.

As the first all-time connected full-size pure electric SUV under the Volkswagen brand, the Yizhong 08 rolled off the production line on March 13. Public information shows that the cooperation between Volkswagen and Xiaopeng Motors began in July 2023. At that time, Volkswagen invested $700 million in Xiaopeng Motors, acquiring a 4.99% stake. Subsequently, the cooperation deepened, extending from the CMP (Compact Main Platform) vehicle platform aimed at the Chinese market to Volkswagen’s global MEB (Modular Electric Drive Matrix) electric vehicle platform. In April 2024, both parties announced the joint development of the CEA electronic and electrical architecture and signed a formal cooperation agreement in July of the same year.

Recently, Herbert Diess, Chairman and CEO of Volkswagen Group (China), stated that the Yizhong 08 is an important milestone in Volkswagen Group’s largest-ever new energy product push in China. “This year, we will accelerate the rollout of electric products at ‘Chinese speed,’ with an average of a new electric vehicle model launched every two weeks,” Diess said.
