U.S. dollars will feature Trump's signature, breaking a 165-year-old tradition.

On March 26, local time, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that starting this summer, U.S. banknotes will begin to feature President Trump’s signature. It is reported that this will be the first time a sitting U.S. president has signed U.S. currency. The Treasury’s statement said that this redesigned currency “aims to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence,” while breaking a 165-year tradition by no longer printing the signature of the U.S. Treasury’s Treasurer; however, it is claimed that the overall design of the banknotes will remain unchanged.

The first batch of $100 bills featuring the signatures of Trump and U.S. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin will be printed in June, followed by other denominations in the coming months. The new banknotes may take several weeks to enter circulation through the banking system. Mnuchin stated in a press release that, “Given the strong economic growth and financial stability of America during Trump’s second term,” he believes this move “is very suitable as a commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary.”
