Top 20 US stock trading volumes on March 19: Microsoft may go to court with Amazon and OpenAI
On Wednesday, the top traded stock in the US was Nvidia, which fell 0.84%, with a trading volume of $28.123 billion. Tianfeng International analyst Guo Mingqi’s latest research points out that as Nvidia increases its investment in AI inference architecture company Groq, Groq’s LPU shipment plans have seen a significant upward revision, and the AI inference hardware market is expected to experience exponential growth over the next two years.
According to the report’s estimates, from 2026 to 2027, the cumulative shipment volume of LPU is expected to reach about 4 million to 5 million units. Among these, the shipment share for 2026 is expected to be around 30% to 40%, while in 2027 it will increase to 60% to 70%. Compared to past yearly shipment volumes, the overall shipment volume will achieve more than tenfold growth, indicating that the demand for AI inference is rapidly entering a phase of large-scale deployment.
In terms of hardware architecture, Nvidia plans to significantly increase the number of LPU configurations within a single AI cabinet from the current 64 units to 256 units, thereby expanding storage capacity while maintaining ultra-low latency inference performance. This move is seen as an important strategy to respond to the rising demand for generative AI and large language model inference.
In second place, Micron Technology rose 0.01%, with a trading volume of $24.123 billion. Analysts say investors remain optimistic about stronger demand related to AI infrastructure. Analysts expect the company’s performance to rebound strongly compared to the previous period, with revenue and adjusted earnings set to grow significantly.
Forecasts indicate that driven by the growth in demand for data center and AI server deployments (which heavily rely on advanced memory chips), the company’s performance is set to achieve triple-digit growth.
Micron has already begun shipping the latest high-bandwidth memory devices for next-generation AI systems and is expanding manufacturing capacity to meet demand. The recent surge in stock price can be attributed to rising product prices, deeper integration into the AI sector, and tightening supply-side management.
In third place, Tesla fell 1.63%, with a trading volume of $19.991 billion. According to Sammyguru, Samsung is preparing to manufacture high-end AI chips for Tesla at its semiconductor plant in Taylor, Texas. Recent reports suggest that the company is expected to begin mass production in the second half of 2027, which could help this Korean foundry recover business lost in recent years.
It is understood that Samsung will manufacture two AI chips for Tesla: AI5 and AI6. The AI5 was initially entirely produced by TSMC, but due to capacity and cost issues, Tesla has shifted part of the capacity to Samsung. The AI6 falls under a $16.5 billion production agreement signed by both parties, which is valid until 2033. Reports indicate that both chips will adopt advanced 2-nanometer technology to achieve higher performance and lower power consumption.
In fourth place, SanDisk rose 4.65%, with a trading volume of $14.456 billion. On Wednesday, storage concept stocks rose against the trend, continuing a recent upward trend. In news, SanDisk held a spring product launch today, introducing a full set of innovative storage solutions, including a new generation of mobile solid-state drives with doubled speed, a revamped series of internal solid-state drives, a USB-C flash drive that breaks through physical size constraints, and the highly anticipated FIFA World Cup 2026 licensed series. This combination aims to provide comprehensive “digital productivity tools” for professionals, content creators, gamers, and sports enthusiasts.
In fifth place, Microsoft fell 1.91%, with a trading volume of $10.081 billion. Microsoft is evaluating legal action against Amazon and OpenAI. The focus of the dispute is a recent $50 billion strategic deal between Amazon and OpenAI and its accompanying cloud cooperation arrangements. Microsoft is concerned that the distribution mechanism related to Frontier could violate its exclusive cloud cooperation agreement with OpenAI.
In eighth place, Amazon fell 2.48%, with a trading volume of $7.893 billion. Recently, it has been reported that Microsoft may be gradually approaching a showdown with Amazon and OpenAI. The core of the dispute is OpenAI’s new platform, Frontier, which focuses on deploying AI agents in enterprise environments. The issue itself is simple but significant. It is believed that Microsoft’s agreement with OpenAI requires its models to run on Azure, but Amazon Web Services is now involved as part of this new arrangement. Reports indicate that Microsoft is taking this seriously, with sources stating that the company is prepared to take legal action if the contract is violated.
Currently, this has not escalated into a full-blown dispute. All parties are still in discussions, and OpenAI seems to believe that its deal with Amazon complies with existing agreements. Meanwhile, Amazon has been steadily deepening its relationship with OpenAI through billions of dollars in investments and broader cloud collaborations.
In tenth place, Lumentum Holdings rose 7.89%, with a trading volume of $6.809 billion. On Wednesday, many stocks in the US optical communication sector surged. In news, the OFC 2026 conference focused on releasing signals for AI infrastructure demand, with Applied Optoelectronics, Lumentum, and Coherent showcasing new products.
In fourteenth place, TSMC fell 1.85%, with a trading volume of $4.264 billion. Reports on Wednesday indicated that TSMC plans to issue its first unsecured corporate bonds of the year, totaling 17.2 billion New Taiwan dollars.
In eighteenth place, Intel rose 2.20%, with a trading volume of $3.465 billion. Intel is set to launch two new flagship CPUs designed for various high-end gaming laptops: the Core Ultra 9 290 HX Plus and the Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus. These two Arrow Lake Refresh chips each feature 24 cores with 24 threads and 20 cores with 20 threads, respectively. Like Intel’s recently released desktop CPUs, the new Plus models for laptops are further optimized for enthusiasts and come equipped with Intel’s binary optimization tools, which can enhance native performance in specific games.
