Report: Iran claims the Strait of Hormuz has been closed and three container ships have been expelled.
According to CCTV International News, today (March 27), the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran issued a statement saying that the Strait of Hormuz is now closed, and any attempts to pass through the strait will be met with severe reprisals. The statement also mentioned that any ships traveling to and from “enemy (U.S. and Israeli) allied and supporting ports,” regardless of their destination or route, are prohibited from passing.
On Friday afternoon, Iranian media reported that three container ships of different nationalities were forced to return from the Strait of Hormuz after warnings from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that the Strait of Hormuz is closed, and any transit through this waterway will face “severe measures.”
Salim Khan, Chief Data Analyst at Pole Star Global, stated that the U.S. Navy’s escort plan through the Strait of Hormuz is physically unfeasible. He added that the narrow strait, which is only 21 miles long, makes any ship passing through a “sitting duck.”
