Japan will support Malaysia's rare earth refining with ODA.
The Japanese government will begin providing technical support related to rare earth mining to Malaysia. The plan is to supply geological exploration equipment through the Official Development Assistance (ODA) program and promote cooperation in environmentally friendly rare earth refining technologies. This initiative aims to help Malaysia, which is rich in rare earth reserves, establish a production base and diversify its rare earth procurement channels.
This marks the first technical cooperation between Japan and Malaysia in the field of rare earth mining through ODA. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) dispatched experts in resource geology, environmental chemistry, and other fields to Malaysia in February to promote the project launch.
Currently, technical personnel from both Japan and Malaysia are communicating and coordinating on project objectives. The Japanese side also plans to invite about 10 technical personnel from Malaysia in the field of mineral processing to Japan for training.
