March 27, the semiconductor equipment sector opened lower and then rallied. As of 14:20, the CSI Semiconductor Materials and Equipment thematic index was up 2.3%. Jiangfeng Electronics led the gainers among constituent stocks, with Shanghai Nanyang and Advanced Semiconductor up more than 7%.

On the news front, driven by a surge in downstream AI chip demand and inventory replenishment in the automotive and industrial control markets, wafer foundries such as TSMC and UMC have recently raised their pricing one after another and increased capital expenditure to expand capacity for advanced process nodes, directly boosting demand for semiconductor equipment orders. In addition, the expansion schedule of domestic wafer fabs continues to accelerate; leading companies such as Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation and Hua Hong Semiconductor have all seen their 2026 capital expenditure plans increased to varying degrees, and requirements for further improving equipment localization rates are being raised.

Guotai Junan Securities believes that proactive contraction on the supply side combined with high-price-range volatility in raw materials has lifted the pricing center of gravity for mature process nodes. This will encourage foundry companies to actively expand capacity, benefiting the upstream industry chain such as equipment.

The CSI Semiconductor Materials and Equipment thematic index focuses on core upstream segments of the semiconductor industry chain. The semiconductor equipment industry accounts for 62%. The top ten weighted stocks include AMEC, NAURA, Changchuan Technology, Accelink Technology, and other leading companies. The semiconductor equipment ETF from E Fund (159558, feeder fund A/C: 021893/021894) tracks this index and can help investors capture localization opportunities on the equipment side.
