Abstract generation in progress

On March 24th, the topic “Meituan deletes photos” trended on social media, sparking widespread discussion.

Several Android users on social media reported that without taking any action, hundreds to thousands of photos and videos in their phone galleries were automatically deleted. System logs showed that the app responsible for the deletions was Meituan.

Users shared screenshots proving their photos were deleted by Meituan:

The screenshots showed that during the deletion process, users could clearly see prompts indicating that Meituan was deleting images and videos on their phone screens.

Additionally, some users claimed that their phones had been used by Meituan to delete over a thousand photos and videos at once.

This issue is not isolated; other Android users have experienced similar problems.

In response, Meituan customer service stated, “After investigation, we found that on certain Android system versions, conflicts with third-party plugins can cause abnormal prompts during cache cleaning, which does not involve reading, storing, or leaking your personal information. We have fixed this issue immediately. If the cleaning process involves your personal files, you can recover them from your phone’s ‘Recycle Bin’ or ‘Recently Deleted.’ If you need assistance, we will provide one-on-one technical support.”

Many users reported that Meituan deleted their photos without reason, and customer service responded.
