On March 11, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun, held a routine press conference. A reporter asked, according to reports, that recently, 16 special rapporteurs of the United Nations Human Rights Council issued a joint press release expressing serious concern over Japan’s denial of the rights of “comfort women” victims to seek truth, justice, and compensation. They called for Japan to issue a formal apology, provide full compensation, and include related historical records in textbooks. What is China’s comment on this? Guo Jiakun stated that the forced conscription of “comfort women” is a serious crime committed by Japanese militarism and a severe violation of the victims’ rights, with irrefutable evidence. The UN human rights mechanisms have clearly spoken out on this, once again condemning and expressing outrage at Japan’s militarist crimes, demonstrating the international community’s determination to defend fairness and justice. Guo Jiakun reiterated: “We urge Japan to deeply reflect on its invasion history, seriously consider the profound disaster its crimes have brought to victims, listen to and implement the opinions and suggestions of UN human rights experts, and handle historical issues such as the forced conscription of comfort women with honesty and responsibility, earning the trust of Asian neighbors and the international community through concrete actions.” (The Paper)
