The U.S. Department of Defense recently “mistakenly used a high-energy laser system to shoot down a drone belonging to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection” in the Texas-Mexico border area. Several informed sources revealed that during the interception, the military “did not realize that the drone was owned by a federal law enforcement agency and mistakenly regarded it as an unidentified target.” Not long ago, the U.S. also experienced an incident where “federal border enforcement agencies used military lasers to shoot balloons.” Sources said that these consecutive communication errors highlight the need to strengthen inter-agency coordination mechanisms, especially in border areas where multiple agencies operate simultaneously. The U.S. Department of Defense has not yet publicly commented on the incident. (CCTV International News)
