According to sources, German consumer goods company Henkel is in advanced negotiations to acquire the hair care brand Olaplex. Olaplex has gained a large following with its shampoos and other hair products. The anonymous sources said that Henkel, headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany, could announce the acquisition within the next few days. The proposed purchase price values Olaplex at approximately $2 per share. The sources also noted that the deal is not finalized yet, and negotiations could still fall through or the timeline could change. Both Henkel and Olaplex’s representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Private equity firm Ares Capital is Olaplex’s largest shareholder. Olaplex went public in 2021 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this month, Olaplex’s management warned investors of weak first-quarter results, and the company’s stock has fallen about 25%. On Wednesday, the stock closed at $1.33 in New York, giving it a market value of approximately $890 million.
