11 "Partners" Have Nearly All Left, Musk's AI Company's 10th Founder Resigns
xAI
Tech Sina News Beijing Time March 26, According to Business Insider, an internal source revealed that xAI co-founder Manuel Kroiss has told those around him that he will be leaving the company.
Kroiss, also known as “Makro,” is one of the 11 engineers who co-founded xAI in 2023 alongside Elon Musk. With his departure, the number of co-founders who have left the company has now reached 10.
Since January this year, xAI co-founders Zhang Guodong, Dai Zihang, Toby Pohlen, Jimmy Ba, Wu Yuhui, and Yang Ge have all left successively.
Kroiss previously was responsible for pre-training at xAI, helping the company train its AI models on large datasets, and reported directly to Musk. He also worked with Zhang Guodong to improve xAI’s programming models. Musk stated at the Abundance Summit earlier this month that xAI is “lagging behind in programming,” but the company is working hard to “surpass competitors in programming.”
With Kroiss’s departure, Ross Nordeen from Tesla is the only co-founder remaining in the company besides Musk.
Sources familiar with the matter said that over the past few weeks, xAI’s organizational structure has been in turbulent adjustment. Musk has taken over dozens of direct reports and has dispatched employees from Tesla and SpaceX. The source also said that the company has laid off dozens of employees.
Earlier this month, Musk posted on X, “xAI was not built well from the start, so we are rebuilding it completely.” (Author: Xiao Yu)
