U.S. White House trade advisor Peter Navarro told Politico that Jerome Powell plans to stay at the Federal Reserve after his term as Chair ends, which is “absolutely harmful.”

He added, “You wouldn’t want a former Fed Chair influencing the current Chair’s leadership.” Navarro also said that Powell’s attitude toward tariffs causing inflation is something he doesn’t understand.

Powell’s term will end in May, and President Trump has already appointed former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh as Powell’s successor. Powell previously stated that the investigation into him is not complete, and he will not leave the Fed until Warsh is confirmed, serving as “acting Chair” in the meantime.
