Rosanna Law: Hong Kong to Become Basel Art Fair's Only Exhibition in Asia for the Next Five Years

Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Lolo Tsoi announced that Hong Kong will be Asia's sole venue for Art Basel over the next five years, strengthening Hong Kong's position as a host city. Meanwhile, the operator and three staff members of independent bookstore "First Punch Books" were arrested on suspicion of selling seditious publications. Tsoi declined to comment on the case.

Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Lulu Lau, said today at the Legislative Council that an agreement has been reached with the Basel Art Fair, confirming Hong Kong as the only exhibition in Asia for the next five years. She described this important arrangement as strengthening Hong Kong’s position as the sole host city, which is of great significance.

Additionally, the independent bookstore “One Punch Bookstore” in Sham Shui Po was arrested along with its owner, Pong Yat-ming, and three female staff members for suspected selling of inciting publications. When asked at the Legislative Council whether a list of inciting publications would be established to help the industry identify them, Lulu Lau only replied: “Regarding inciting publications and activities, since there has already been an arrest in that case, I think I don’t find it appropriate to comment here.”
